In Emma’s heart is a gigantic room for Zienne. She took time, on her own volition, to teach her little sister how to tie shoe laces. As the little sister, zi always welcomes new knowledge from her older sister. If it was me trying to teach Zienne, she’d already lose patience and tell me she knows how to tie the laces, but with her Ate Emma, she’ll sit and observe. I love capturing moments like this, stealing them from time before they vanish.
Last night, while I was tucking the girl in, Emma said, “Mamam, did you know that I try to do things to make you happy?” Then Zienne added, “Ya, we want you to be really happy. Even when I’m sad, I still love you.” I love how honest my children are with me about their feelings. I love that my love for them isn’t in vain. I love how they love me, at the end of the day, they tell me what’s most important in their hearts, and one of them is their love. Man…I wish I could keep them this age, with their hearts in tact.
