Last night, we helped Emma record her honors choir regional audition. She is cut from my cloth, but woven intricately is something all different from me completely- her drive to put herself out there, her talents and abilities. She’s also been practicing daily for her audition with Violin Regionals. Even in elementary school, she auditioned for talent shows, singing competitions, violin parts; some she made and some from which she was rejected. But her resolve to do what is in her DNA still composes her resolutions, sometimes to my hesitance. I just don’t want her heart broken. But what is a broken heart? Throughout time, personal experience included, a broken heart was a key to something greater. Our hearts are not made to be kept perfectly whole. How else can things seep through and truly get to our core? These days, I admit, I pray more than I have prayed. By no merit of my own or discipline of my will, my prayer life has come what is a daily need. As a mother, I am finally at a mindset that I my control over things is so miniscule. So I turn to the giver of life. I turn to […]
Words can’t describe how grateful our hearts are for all the things that transpired this year. The road wasn’t void of obstacles, but pillars of support + deep etchings of promises held our family together. My prayer for our family this new year is a new perspective to love each other through Seeking God together through His Word, to live simpler in our wants, and to give more generously as His hands + feet. I want our children to grow through service and realize they will be key bearers one day as leaders. Seems like a gargantuan task, but I guess, it will just take the small choices of every day. Happy New Year, Family + friends!
“Christmas is in the Heart”. SJBCI Choir 2018. Praise God for your continued service to minister through music + uplift souls to think about God’s gift of love this Christmas through Jesus’ birth. Thank you for being a vehicle of praise and allowing others to see your hearts as you magnified Christ. To God be the glory, choir. Continue serving Him + May our hearts bow before Him in every season. They always bring me back to remember that Ministry is about people. If I do not preach Christ, if I do not point your heart to Him, I fail in this ministry. Thank you for keeping me in check. And then, of course, we can come together through the music. Thank you choir, for not giving up. Additionally, job well done to the SJBCI Kids’ Choir as they presented the music of “Jingle Bell Beach”. Their courage to execute those solos and excitement to sing were encouraging acts to witness. Their journey in their faith, musicianship, and servanthood are all a wonder to behold. The first practice, they were 100% hesitant to even think of performing a solo, but by the end of the last practice, almost all of […]
During choir practice, I ran to grab my phone to take this picture. I don’t know why I felt so moved when I saw my mom and my friend’s mom decorate the church tree together. Little by little, I get a little discouraged with serving. But looking back to my childhood, my adolescence, and now as a mother myself, I’ve always silently seen my mother serve in this church where she can be of need. It’s a beautiful thing to notice her go home, then come back just to help decorate…even in her senior years. Silently, she has passed down the importance of serving in every season, every age, in the grand gestures, and even in these small moments. I hope to live the same example to my girls.
It’s back to school! Praise the Lord, we were able to get everything in order with registration, tests, and school prep for their first day in a new school!! They’re positive, excited, and so ready to face the challenges- scholastic + social. Emma is officially in middle school. New school vibes, so there were a lot of changes Em had to already go through in this school system. But we’re confident she’ll adapt and sword-of-omens this year in the face. Zi is taking on the role of veteran and big sister to Elle as she’ll be explaining all the ropes, even if this school is also new to Zi. She’s Sandy Olssen on the outside, but Stephanie Zanoni on the inside… We can’t believe Elle is in KINDERGARTEN! Yay! She was so excited today because there so many FIRSTS in store. Pretty sure she’ll try to be the funny one in her class; she’s confident like Kelly Kapowski, a go getter like Jesse Spano, and sassy like Lisa Turtle. But deep down, she’s mischievous like Zach Morris. Get ’em, girls! Girl power!!
Leading the girls in family devotion the night before their first day of school. We knew the girls were all going to face new challenges, being in a new school and having left their old friends, the familiarity of their previous campus, schedules, and policies, and scholastic standing. And even Elle, who will be going into her first year of school. There will be a number of changes, but as parents, we know God loves them, and He will be with them with every second we cannot. We have faith they will not only find their way, but have that reminder of who they are in God’s family, to be the salt in their personal spheres. We’re praying for all the students out there. Continue to stand your ground, and be the change you want to see, to find your voice in this very confident and loud world. Strive for excellence and pursue the love for learning and knowledge.
Happy birthday to my not-so-little beloved Elleonai who turns 5 today. Last year, she learned how to skate, ride a bike with training wheels, swim under water without Floaties, indoor rock climb, read, write her full name, hula hoop, whistle, love the Beatles + Abba, make simple meals, ride really tall rides, was a flower girl for 3 weddings, and met Mickey Mouse + Jollibee. She is opinionated, super social, outgoing, vocal, and extremely brave to new activities. We are quite surprised with her ability to try new things even if she is this small little girl…her courage is immense. She is also very sassy, prone to make a myriad of facial gestures that can even be sarcastic and extra. But she is an amazing little girl, who already knows what it means to be a loyal friend, an understanding sister, a responsible worker, a mini leader, and can melt her way into the hearts of her parents. Not to mention, she has such a mature sense of humor for her age and weird interests…I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, and she said ,”Peppa pig and a model of gray matter.” What a pleasure to raise her.
