Emma has participated in two of her violin concerts already- one in the fall and then one in Christmas. I missed her Christmas concert due to a mandatory Christmas Cantata final rehearsal in SJ. Last Saturday, Emma played in her first solo recital, playing “O Come Little Children”. This is Emma after she got her violin tuned, practicing a little before the solo recitals started. I wanted to stay upstairs so I can get an aerial picture of her playing, but as the student before her was playing, I saw her look back to find me, making sure I was present to see her play her piece. I knew that if I went upstairs, she would be sad if she realized I was nowhere in the room, so I stayed downstairs for her. Surely enough, right before she played, she quickly gazed my way. Good choice. Phew. As she played, I smiled. I know this is just the beginning of her relationship with the violin, but like a great wedding, your heart swells up with all the hopes you have for the couple. As she played, I already had visions of teenage Emma playing her violin at school concerts. I […]
So for the past two months, I’ve been diligently teaching both my girls to memorize as many Bible verses as they can remember. Once I know they’ve mastered a verse, I add another one, and so far, here are the ones they’ve memorized: 1. John 3:16 2. Ephesians 6:1 3. 1 Peter 5:7 4. John 14:6 5. John 3:30 6. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 7. Romans 12:1 Their next verse is Romans 12:2 because one of my goals this year was to get our family to memorize our family verses Romans 12:1-2. These verses were the family verses also of Perze’s family so we’ve adopted them as our own as well to live out and teach our kids. Hopefully, they too will learn to see its importance and pass it down to their future families as well. Tradition is very big in our family :), esp. giving our daughters birth verses which we hope they will learn to love and cling to in all the seasons of their lives. We didn’t know anyone else who did this, so we wanted to start it in our own family, so when Emma was born, right after her birth, we read her life verses […]

So I just wanted to give some praises, how I see God working through the new Young Professionals group in SJBCI. For the past years, we’ve had to borrow choir mics from our daughter church who has been gracious enough to trust us with such expensive gear (salamat!). This year, a number of Young Pros chipped in to buy 2 $600+ mics for the choir, since the choir ministry sings every month and holds two cantatas every year. There was definitely a need, and as expensive as these mics were, people gave money to cover the costs! Amen! Not to mention that they gave right after Christmas, when funds were already low. Happy birthday Jesus! Now, right now, I know some people (even Christians) are thinking, they spent that money on mics when there are people starving in the world?! Don’t worry judging cynics, some of these individuals, if not all, also give to local missionaries, world catastrophe funds, giant organisational charities yearly, and to family members back home who needed financial help. Put your big boy pants up and match that! But the choir mics for our music ministry has defitely been a blessing during cantatas. If you don’t […]
Emma was worried about having too much homework and still having to read for 20 mins. So I suggested that she take a break from homework so we could read together. I chose her devotions book. How fitting the lesson that we learned! She was so surprised God knew how ro reach her so specifically. After we read this, she said, “God really is everywhere,” then didn’t mind going back to finishing her homework.
I was looking for a birthday verse for my godchild and saw this: Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV) I wrote it on her card. Granted she’s only turning the big O N E, but hopefully, if she ever looks back at that card, a lightbulb from heaven will give her the clarity that we are indeed created for His purpose- being good works prepared in advance. How awesome is that?! We go through life, through our adolescent and even golden years WONDERING, sometimes confused as to why we are here, questioning where we belong, but the verse transverses time and reminds us that what is going to be already is; we just need to go for the things God has planned for us in the beginning. And since we are His handiwork, His creation, created IN Christ Jesus, we need to trust Him.
