My daughter completed her first summer reading program hosted by Rutgers Univ. The benefits of this program were Emma’s confidence to read in a relaxed and easy atmosphere that affirmed the things she knew about reading, and gaining some methods to teach Emma how to read troublesome words.
Sadly, I doubt I’ll register her again next summer because I was hoping that this program would challenge her more than what she knew. With the price we paid for enrollment, I think I can facilitate this myself next summer.
However, for the first year, I’m glad I did it (although while going through it, I was a bit of a debbie downer). Emma had a good time and she really gained encouragement and confidence in reading. So, her absolute last class, she wanted to take a picture with her teacher. She even drew her a memorable picture.
