we celebrated by eating at red lobster a couple days early. then the whole family ate dinner at adelphia’s as a treat by my parents. after shopping that night, i got my loving presents from zem and perze who still manages to surprise me, as well as a sweet present from my sister stephanie. sunday night, the youth, rogie/lheila dropped by to spend my birthday over for dinner and friendly’s ice cream cake. i just want to praise God for another year, for his unconditional love, and esp. the beautiful blessings he showers me through my family, my friends, my church…He is good and his love endures forever. i also want to thank my parents, my family, my friends who left comments, called, videos, greetings, and my devoted husband and daughter who continue to make life so joyful. for full birthday blog: click on the twelvesixteen blog
introducing: chloe born: august 21, 2007 7.8 lbs & 19.5 inchescongrats to our friends necille and rico for their firstborn. wow! how exciting…new parents! we laugh and cry with you, knowing all the sleepless nights and all the overwhelming joys!! God bless your little chloe! “If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle.” -Vincent Van Gogh
Black Snake Moan surprisingly, i liked this movie, mainly because of all the symbolism, and it was such a unique psychological concept. there was such parallelism between the two main despondent characters who ended up forming this complex symbiotic relationship. … also, the chain was a unique symbol which typically would connotate imprisonment, but it ended up representing freedom (also conveyed in the end when she had the wedding chain around her waist). she finally realized how to be free from what really supressed her- her memories of her abusive father. granted, this is rated R, so there’s a lot of French in the movie- and birthday suits, and lots of the three letter word…so it’s not very palatable, but overall, the sentiment came out of all the dirty dross, almost resembling grace. christina ricci has always been one of my secret favorite actresses, and samuel jackson delivers what he was meant to do in the movie. jt, however, seemed like he was a character from dawson’s creek…but good effort.
last weeked, we came home from the yb leadership retreat. rog had a coworker who lent us the place for free for four days in little egg harbor township. there was a total of 21 participants, including the 4 teachers. it focused on leadership through character studies, with the last session concluding with the theme verse found in phils. 2:3-4 and 2 tim.- paul’s laying down of his ministry. it ended up being an emotional retreat, as well as extremely funny weekend- with all the inside jokes and loony moments. we were all really blessed for God’s convictions that last night…and i’m just so thankful for the youth as well as for the sacrifices made by perze, rogie, and leila. forum testimonies retreat album
